Bristol Shopping Quarter newsletter: Covid-19 editions

As part of our work to market Broadmead, The Galleries, The Arcade and Cabot Circus as Bristol Shopping Quarter, we send out a monthly consumer newsletter to 12,300+ subscribers. It normally goes out on the first Tuesday of each month and features competitions, special offers, and news about the area and from our retailers. It is designed to encourage shoppers to visit.

In April 2020, the Covid-19 crisis required us to change tactic – we needed shoppers to stay at home except for essential shopping, medical reason, or for daily exercise! After much consideration about content and tone, we delayed publication until later in the month, then produced a newsletter with information about the essential retailers remaining open for business as well as links to some of the great content produced online by others hoping to keep their customers engaged – fitness classes, recipes, beauty tips and more were included.

This special edition allowed us to showcase more than 30 levy paying businesses and achieved a good open rate with a pleasing percentage of click throughs too.

Our next newsletter, sent on 12 May, showcased some of the key workers who have been working in Bristol Shopping Quarter throughout the lockdown, including the teams at Metro Bank, Barclays Bank, Marks & Spencer, Boots and Specsaver as well as Avon & Somerset Police, Bristol Waste and Jack the Ranger. We also featured Mark, the manager of Slater Menswear, who has been sewing scrubs for the NHS. In all, we mentioned 17 levy paying businesses, with links to either their listings on the Bristol Shopping Quarter website or to their own websites/social media pages.

If you have any news you would like us to share in our next newsletter, please email viv@broadmeadbid.co.uk. It will go out either at the end of May or at the beginning of June, depending when we have enough information about re-opening to share with consumers,
