BSQ newsletters – monthly

Every month, the BID sends a Bristol Shopping Quarter newsletter to subscribers. 

The objective is to share news, offers and events, including introduction to new stores; special events; job vacancies; shopping ideas; and key information about other important news.

All Broadmead BID retailers are invited to submit content, including online deals, good news stories, shout-outs for their teams, and any in-person or virtual activities and events they have planned.

We often include a competition to increase the open and click rates. The majority of entrants opt in to receive future emails and many of those also agree to be contacted by our competition partners (businesses that have donated prizes).

The newsletter is normally sent out on the first Tuesday of every month. The submission deadline is the 21st of the previous month.

At the start of each month, inactive subscribers (those who received our last five newsletters but hadn’t opened any of them) are removed from the mailing list. This improves the open rate, reduce bounces and unsubscribes, and also saves money, as we pay a monthly charge based on the number of subscribers.

Please note, the newsletters are sent twice; until June 2024 we were able to send the second copy only to people who had been sent, but hadn’t opened, the first copy. Mailchimp now doesn’t allow us to create that particular segment, so since July 2024, the second copy has gone to the full mailing list, with the subject line including ICYMI (in case you missed it). This is why the open rate is now higher than 100%.

  • November’s newsletter was sent to 3,164 subscribers on 5 November (127% open rate, 2.46% click rate)
  • October’s newsletter was sent to 3,026 subscribers on 1 October (140% open rate, 25% click rate)
  • September’s newsletter was sent to 3,045 subscribers on 3 September (131% open rate, 1% click rate)
  • August’s newsletter was sent to 3,058 subscribers on 6 August (122% open rate, 1% click rate)
  • July’s newsletter was sent to 3,073 subscribers on 2 July (130% open rate, 2% click rate)
  • June’s newsletter  (79% open rate, 15% click rate)
  • May’s newsletter was sent to 3,442 subscribers on 7 May (79% open rate, 0.8% click rate)
  • April’s newsletter was sent to 3,448 subscribers on 2 April (80% open rate, 1% click rate)
  • March’s newsletter was sent to 3,464 subscribers on 5 March (81% open rate, 0.7% click rate)
  • February’s newsletter was sent to 3,933 subscribers on 6 February (78% open rate, 9% click rate)
